Shastri talks about Devyani’s marriage

At night, Swami was sitting on the cot. Shastri and Devyani were sitting on the mat. Swami was having pan supari.

Shankraiah looked at Devyani. “Your daughter prepared tiffin very well.”

Shastri looked at Devyani. ‘Motherless child. She has learnt everything by herself.”

“What is your gotra?”

“Vashista.”

“Have you seen anybody for your daughter?”

“Not yet. Do you know anyone?”

“Yes my boy is there.”

Shastri was surprised.

“My brother’s only son.”

“What is he doing?”

“The boy? He is a software engineer.”

Shastri was confused. “What is that?”

Shankaraiah laughed. “Computer engineer. He gets 30 to 35 thousand per month salary.”

Shastri was a bit worried. He thought, “Will he marry the daughter of an ordinary man like me?”

Shankaraiah looked at Devyani. “Your daughter is like a doll. Any one would marry her. Looking at her face, we can tell that she is very cultured.”

Shastri felt very proud.

Shankaraiah said, “Our boy is perfect for her. His name is Rajiv. Till today he has not eaten in a hotel. He prepares his own food. Even though he gets so much money, he spends very little on himself. He gets up early in the morning and takes bath in cold water. Then he does Gayatri japa and then only he goes out.”

Shastri was surprised. “Amazing. In modern you can rarely find boys doing Gayatri japa.”

Shankariah felt proud. “He does it daily. Regarding marriage, he has put some conditions. The girl should be beautiful and cultured.”

Shastri was most surprised. “What else?”

“Both of these points are there in your daughter. If the jataka matches, we can get them married.”

Devyani was listening to all this. She felt shy.

Shastri observed her. “I will give you her jataka.”

“Yes. I will send his jataka as soon as I reach home.”

Shastri got up and gave him Devyani’s jataka. Shankaraiah put it in his bag.
