CHAPTER 46
Shastri is shocked to hear of Naga’s suggestion
Naga took Manikyam to Shivayya’s village.
As the car entered Shivayya’s village, Naga said, “This is that girl’s village.”
The car stopped in front of Shastri’s house. They got
down. Naga entered the house. Shastri was
writing something. He looked up and was shocked to see Naga. Devyani came out
of her room. She put mat for them.
Shastri said, “Please come. Sit down. Poor people’s
house.”
They sat down.
Naga said, “When the occasion arises, we have to go to
house of the poor also.”
Devyani brought water. Manikyam kept looking at her.
Shastri asked, “Will you have coffee or milk?”
“No. No need.” Said Naga.
“Tell me why you people have come here.”
“Luck is knocking at your door.”
Shastri looked at him in surprise. “Please explain.”
“This is Manikyam, a film producer.”
“Do you want me to mention a good date for releasing a
film?”
“No. He wants to produce a film “ANARKALI”. He saw
your daughter at Swami’s function. He wants to make her a heroine in his film.”
Shastri was shocked. “Please forgive me. I don’t have
any such plans. I just want to get her married to a good person.”
Naga opened the suitcase and placed 50 thousand rupees
in front of Shastri.
“Don’t refuse Laxmi, who has come to your door. Maybe
you have never seen so much money in your life. This is only advance. When the
film is a success, you will get suitcase full of money.”
Shastri became serious. “I have already told you that
I am not interested.”
He folded his hands. “You may leave now.”
Naga became serious. “I have given him word.”
“What? Who are you to give word about my daughter?”
Naga straightened his body. “Do you know who I am? Son
of minister Manohar.”
“Forgive me. I don’t care who you are. Please take the
money and leave.”
Naga felt disgraced in front of Manikyam. He took the
money and put it in the suitcase. “I have taken back the money as you said. But
I cannot take back the word I have given to him.”
He looked at Manikyam. “Come. Let us go.”
They got into the car and left.
Shastri looked at them. “If Shivayya was here, he
would not have left them alive. He has given his word it seems.”
Shastri entered the house and looked at Devyani. She went
into her room.
Shastri thought, “I must get her married as soon as
possible.”
The car reached Naga’s house. Naga and Manikyam got
down.
Naga said, “You don’t worry. They are still new to
this. Let that 10 lakhs advance be with me. Give me 2 months time. I will get
her to you.”
Manikyam climbed into another car and left.
Naga thought, “I must meet that criminal lawyer
Tirupati Rao. He will have some ideas.”
